New Website

Glory to God in the highest and on Earth peace. Good will, toward men!

Originally, our parish debated whether a website was in good form. Looking online, however, we found that many Orthodox organizations utilized the web for various purposes. Happily, this site was allowed — even blessed — by our parish priest.

It was determined, though, that this website not be a place for discussion (for the most part). As such, the site was set up for the education and edification of — first and foremost — our own members. You will see that it contains for example a) local notices, b) information specific to our tradition, and c) photos of our church and church members.

As well, we wanted articles found herein to be authoritative. Because of this, some of the information you find will be taken from various other websites, writings of the Church Fathers, etc. To streamline this process, linking (to the very sites where such information originated) seemed prudent:

The Offsite Links section is extensive. All of the linked sites have been examined. And each site is enthusiastically recommended.

As well, the Introduction area gives only the most basic information: A history of Orthodoxy (video). A “first visit” overview. Etc. And even these topics are repeated in the Main Section, Orthodoxy, area (with a bit more detail in the history department).

But, in addition to a local calendar and parish updates, I think you (dear visitor) will appreciate:

  1. The Icons (a rare find and only available in Russian until now).
  2. Daily Reverences (much simplified as compared to what you’ll see elsewhere). And …
  3. Frequent Updates (subscribing to the email list will result in a beautiful “icon a day” in your box).

Note:

  • The Saint Viewer mirrors your email updates with a simple view of “Daily Saints” (a row of icon thumbnails which provide the opportunity to click on any one of them so as to read about the Saint depicted).
  • The text provided in the Daily Saint area of the Image Gallery is from a Menologion download (as such, many people would not have access to this particular information — otherwise)!
  • A thorough immersion in the image gallery might suffice to “inform” the casual visitor about the beauty of Orthodoxy (the extensive collection of church photos are particularly stunning).
  • And even a beginner in the faith can pray in an Orthodox fashion by visiting our own “online chapel” and following the hours of prayer in audio format while viewing a random icon of the Theotokos.

The technology which drives this site is cutting edge. So, finding information on this site should be simple (menus, links, and search boxes). And the site design should be pleasing (maybe even a bit surprising). Enjoy!

In Christ,

The Site Admin.
