Church building update 8/5/07
We have been so busy building the church that we haven't taken the time since May to give an update. Glory to God! Construction is done, we are mostly moved in, and are now having services in the new building.
We were very blessed to have a visit from Saint InnocentsAcademy from Kodiak Alaska. The academy stayed several days at our church and contributed a huge amount of labor to our project. They completed the soffet and facia, cleaned and prepped the floors for staining, stained, varnished, and installed hundreds of feet of woodwork, and cleaned up a gigantic cosntruction pile outside the building.
They also worshipped with us and filled our church with the beautiful sound of their voices. Many thanks to Father Paisius, Matushka Mary, and all those who who were with them, especially Bernie Stadler, the job foreman, craftsman extraordinaire, and humble servant of God. They will all have a special place in our hearts as we remember how much they helped us complete our new church.
Maria Ruggiero did a great job painting the interior. Isaac Miller helped with many parts of the project includinfg wiring up receptacles.
Dan Meece and Timothy Eads, our two sub-deacons and pillars of the church, did the concrete work on the entry way with a little help from Isaac Miller.
Now that church construction is completed, we have begun replacing the roof on the Daron's house.
Finally, on Sunday August 5, we celebrated our first Sunday Divine Liturgy. The day was made very special by a visit from Very Reverend Protopresbyter George Havrila and his wife, Pani Anna. Father George helped us start this mission over ten years ago and has become a very close and beloved friend of the parish.
We are not ready yet to have an open house as we are still moving in and unpacking. I will be sending photos soon but I am currently having difficulty uploading photos to the web site.
May God bless you all. Many thanks to you for your prayers and support.
