Excerpts

Posted Thursday, December 1st, 2005 by Brett Robertson

By excerpt, I don't mean the excerpt blank 1. The text area for "excerpts" isn't used. It might be used for RSS feeds or as a teaser somewhere on the site. It isn't. If it is 2, I'll add an automatic excerpt application that will automatically generate this text.

By excerpt is meant: The first part of a post. That part of a post which is shown on the main page. This applies when additional text is included on a subsequent page. And it is of special interest to writers of a post. Readers of a post merely reap the benefits of having an excerpted, shortened, or previewable, entry to read before deciding if they wish to peruse the entire post.

Terms

When writing a post, use square brackets around words with which others may be unfamiliar. Alternately, highlight such words and click the button labeled term in the quicktags menu (which, similarly, puts square brackets around words so designated).

When reading a post, words marked as above become either: 1. Terms included in the category Terms 1. 2. A word designated by the option2 to create 3.

Blogroll

Posted Thursday, December 1st, 2005 by Brett Robertson

A blogroll is a list of blog links. Different services organize these links differently. I use Bloglines to organize my list of blogs. The list is then included on this website. 1 The list of blogs may change. The ordering of the list should reflect which blogs are updated. 2 I am not responsible for the content of such blogs; but, I could remove blogs that are objectionable. I can also add blogs. If you have a blog that you want added, let me know. If you want to start a blog, I recommend Blogger and Livejournal. 3 It would be nice if all church members each had their own blogs! I would like to list member blogs on this site.

Categories

Posted Thursday, December 1st, 2005 by Brett Robertson

The categories listed as of this date 1 may be all of the categories required or desired. Nonetheless, if you find 2 that a new category should be implemented; then, you can notify someone with admin permission 3 and the new category will be included.

Categorizing posts using the category system should not be difficult. And posts may be appropriately placed in several categories4. Categories merely provide a way to "tag" posts: They are useful for navigation, for finding related posts, and for otherwise organizing the site.
